Hunter track · Field positions and ethical range

What this class is

Precision Hunter takes the rifle you actually hunt with and the ammunition you actually hunt with, and builds a find-range-engage process around them. Sitting, kneeling, standing, tripod, and pack-supported positions in real terrain. Wind calls you can make under pressure. And a clear answer to the question that matters: what is my maximum ethical range?

Full Precision Hunter breakdown
Who it's for

Hunters who can already hit a 12-inch plate at 300 yards and want to know, not hope, when a shot is inside their ability.

What you'll be able to do
  • Confirm zero, velocity, and practical field data for your hunting rifle and ammunition
  • Build sitting, kneeling, standing, tripod, and pack-supported positions
  • Range targets and build a firing solution quickly in the field
  • Make wind calls with a process you can repeat under pressure
  • Work through realistic terrain and field-style shooting problems
  • Establish your maximum lethal and ethical engagement range
  • Leave with a field-ready rifle system and clear practice priorities

Training plan

Day by day

  1. Day 1 Fri, Sep 3

    Baseline knowledge and skills

System setup, baseline data, and wind fundamentals

    • In the Classroom:
    • Talk about what species to hunt. How to acquire a tag. Actions to complete BEFORE the hunt. Gear considerations. Gun considerations. Ammo Considerations. Terminal ballistics considerations and Ethical Shot Considerations.
    • At the Range:
    • Complete safety, gear setup, rifle fitment, and optic fundamentals
    • Confirm true zero, chronograph velocity, and establish Max Point Blank
    • Validate ballistic profile and apply known-distance solutions
    • Develop practical wind calls through 300-700 yard engagements
    • Testing Optics in low lite senarios.
  2. Day 2 Sat, Sep 4

    Practical hunting positions and application

Field positions, terminal considerations, and stress application

    • Run One Shot One Kill evaluation and zero confirmation
    • Build tripod proficiency from standing, kneeling, and sitting
    • Perform multiple spot and stalk live fire evaluations.
    • Complete multi-stage final evolution under realistic constraints on life sized targets

The final schedule can shift with weather, terrain, and the class in front of us. The standard stays the same: clear reps, coached correction, and useful debriefs.

On the line

Your instructor

Steve Holland

Recon Marine · Recon Sniper Course instructor

Former Recon Sniper Course instructor, now a firefighter and lifelong hunter who serves as The Cadre's safety officer. He'd rather glass a hillside at dawn than run a stage on the clock, and he teaches the way he hunts: slow down, read your conditions, make the first round count.
